In this episode Jesús talks to Muazma Zahid, Senior Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft Azure Global team, where she enables customers to deploy the most demanding Data workloads on Azure. She has been a Data Engineer/Architect and Speaker for over thirteen years working on several Big Data, Cloud Computing, and AI Technologies. She is an active researcher in biomedical engineering and her research software is used in EKG machines all around the world.

Muazma is an advocate of diversity and inclusion. She is President of non-profit organization Pakistani Women in Computing which is on a mission to build a strong global network of Pakistani women in technology and allies to foster the community’s growth through meaningful connections and learning opportunities. She has led several programs for AnitaB.org and currently leads the AnitaB.org Seattle community. She is also a leader at Women Who Code and Women at Microsoft.

Today Jesus chats with Brian, an inspiring professional who really understands the importance of Design when it comes to ideating, creating, and implementing data-fueled solutions and applications.

Brian T. O’Neill is the founder of Designing for Analytics and a true believer in the importance of designing human-tailored data solutions. For over 20 years, he has been successful in creating innovative Advanced Analytical and AI business solutions for global leaders such as DellEMC or Tripadvisor, JP Morgan Chase amongst many others.

Brian and Jesús explore how extraordinary value can be created when the outputs of data science and analytics are turned into engaging, valuable decision support applications and user experiences centered around the stakeholders, as humans, in the loop. The importance of generating adoption when building a data application or business solution is also discussed throughout the call.

Brian also hosts his own podcast: Experiencing Data, where he reveals the strategies and activities that Product, Data Science, and Analytics leaders are using to deliver human-centered data products.

Brian also authored the DFA Self-Assessment Guide, teaches a seminar called Designing Human-Centered Data Science Solutions, and publishes a weekly Insights mailing list. In 2020, Brian began advising students in MIT’s Sandbox Innovation Fund and was published in O’Reilly Media’s 97 Things About Ethics in Data Science Everyone Should Know.
Brian is a classical and jazz musician by training, a professional drummer and percussionist in Boston.

Artur Ortega is one of those professionals who inspires motivation and truly leads by example. He is currently the Head of Babylon Health´s platform architecture.

For those who don’t know: Babylon Health is a health service provider that provides remote consultations with doctors and health care professionals via text and video messaging through its mobile application. Their subscription based business model for private healthcare services launched in the UK in 2013 and they have now expanded internationally to countries such as Canada, Saudi Arabia and the US. Their mission and value proposition is to put an affordable and accessible health service in the hands of every person on earth.

In this 4th episode of the 1st season we discuss with Artur the evolution of data analytics, from the traditional early data warehouses project where he took part in, to the machine learning models and advanced analytics projects that he worked on later on. Many powerful use cases from his past in Yahoo, in The Telegraph and in The Economist are discussed. Moreover, he briefly mentions how Babylon strives to embed AI as the main enabling technology in their digital health platform.

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) being the 3rd oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919. The Packers are the only non-profit, community-owned major league sports team based in the US.

Their Business Intelligence office is managed by Garrison Cummings, a professional whose passion is leveraging data insights into successful business outcomes. His knowledge of the digital marketing realm and expertise in data analysis has allowed him to gain a great understanding of their fanbase customer journey and he now excels in creating marketing analytics business plans to drive revenue at each stage of the customer journey.

In today’s podcast we discuss with him the evolution of data analytics, from the traditional Business Intelligence point of view to how companies are commencing to embed Data Science capabilities transversally across all business units. This weekend Jesús calls Bill Schmarzo, “Dean of Big Data”, a pragmatic hands-on influencer and innovator. Bill has been recognised as an industry leader in Big Data, Data Science, Design Thinking and Data Monetisation. In the past he was Chief Innovation Officer at Hitachi Vantara and Chief Technology Officer at EMC.

He has written 4 books “Big Data: Understanding How Data Powers Big Business,” “Big Data MBA: Driving Business Strategies with Data Science” and the forthcoming “Economics of Data, Analytics and Digital Transformation;” and published over 350 industry-leading articles and educational videos on the application of Big Data, Data Science, AI / ML and IoT to drive data monetisation and digital transformation.

He is also a Professor an has developed and taught the “Big Data MBA”, a course for integrating data and analytics into the operations of the business, at the University of San Francisco School of Management and at the National University of Ireland-Galway School of Business & Economics. He also lectures to numerous universities and organisations worldwide.

The Value Engineering methodology, which he created, drives customer collaboration (co-creation) and organisational alignment in identifying, validating, valuing and prioritising the organisation’s most important business use cases where data and analytics can have tangible and measure impact. For this he integrates Design Thinking with Data Science while employing a “Rapid exploration, rapid testing, failure-empowering, continuously-learning” development methodology.

We briefly introduce with Bill the business-first approach mechanisms for establishing, nurturing, empowering and leveraging Advanced Analytics, Data Science and Value Engineering teams in order to uncover the customer, product and operational insights buried in each organisation’s data.
